How to use these numbers
Every calculator shows the intermediate values as well as the total: area, volume and consumption per unit. You can see where the number comes from and check it by hand.
- The cutting allowance is built in and adjustable: 5% for a simple room, 15% for diagonal work.
- Consumption figures are typical. Take the final number from your bag or label — brands differ by 10–20%.
- Areas and volumes come from geometry and do not depend on the brand, so you can rely on them completely.
How much to buy
Buying exactly what the calculator says is risky: batches of tile, wallpaper and laminate differ in shade, and matching the colour a month later is usually impossible. Buying twice as much is also a mistake, because opened packs cannot be returned.
A sensible compromise: for batch-sensitive materials (tile, wallpaper, laminate, paint) buy the calculated amount plus one pack; for bagged mixes buy exactly what you need, since they are always available.
