What the numbers include
Sheets come from the area plus a cutting allowance. Profiles assume 60 cm spacing: about 2 m of CD and 1.2 m of UD per m² on walls, 2.9 m of CD and 1 m of UD on ceilings. Screws run at about 30 per m² per layer.
Worked example
An 18 m² ceiling with 1.2 × 2.5 m sheets (3 m²) and 10% waste: 19.8 ÷ 3 = 6.6 → 7 sheets. CD ≈ 52 m, UD ≈ 18 m, about 540 screws and roughly 7 kg of joint filler.

Which board to buy
Standard (grey) for dry rooms. Moisture-resistant (green) for bathrooms, kitchens and under tiles in wet zones, though it never replaces waterproofing. Fire-resistant (pink) for boxing around flues. 12.5 mm is standard for walls, 9.5 mm for ceilings and curves.
Store boards upright in a dry room. A sheet left flat on an uneven floor will never sit straight on the frame.
